Welcome to Invercargill City Libraries & Archives

Welcome

The Invercargill Public Library is a modern library in the central business district of Invercargill and a small branch library at Bluff, we have a membership of some 36,000, who borrow 750,000 items a year as well as making extensive use of information in reference services. Membership is free to all residents of Invercargill, Southland and South Otago.

If you would like to join up next time you come in make sure you provide some identification and proof of your address at any of our help desks and we will join you and your family up in a matter of minutes.

The library prides itself in having a quality, experienced professional staff offering a wide range of services. Invercargill City Libraries has the reputation of being one of the best public library services in New Zealand.

In May 2008, the library opened an archives research facility that will house community archives and council archival records. The redeveloped building is directly accessible from the central library. A multi story car parking building is directly linked to the library and archive facility.

If you are interested in events happening at the library head to out events page for comprehensive updates on what is happening.

Keep updated also on www.twitter.com/invlibrary, where we like to bring light hearted humour to the table.

Enjoy your trip through our pages, and feel free to contact us if you have any questions or queries on 03 211 1444.

Lord of the Rings Auction

Doing Our Bit for Charity

If you are keen to get your hands on a piece of hand-crafted Lord of the Rings memorabilia then we have a couple here.

We have created a great way to raise money for the annual Relay for Life happening here in Invercargill on the weekend of the 6 & 7 March 2010.

Our amazing display co-ordinator, Andrea Williams, has gifted us the replica she has built of Helms Deep and Bag End, Bilbo's House. She has beautifully crafted them from papier mache, plaster and wood.

A huge response already to the models so if you would like to make a bid log onto www.trademe.co.nz or have a look here at what we are up to.
