Download eBooks and eAudio

Digital books are a fairly new area for libraries. We have joined a South Island consortium of public libraries to build a collection of eBooks and eAudiobooks for you. The consortium provides a downloadable collection for all of the member libraries to share (called the South Island Downloadable Zone), powered by OverDrive. 

We have also used OverDrive Advantage to purchase some titles that only you will be able to borrow, as a member of this library. You will need to use your User ID, found on the back of your library card, to access the service.  See the eBooks and eAudio pages for full details.

Newspapers online

Another service we can offer you is access to newspapers from all over the world, online through Library Press Display, from either at the Library or from home. By using the User ID number from the back of your library card, you can read everything from the Southland Times to the latest news from the Czech Republic. Read your favourite newspaper in fulltext, looking exactly the same as it would on that old-fashioned thing called newsprint.
