Borrowing

You can borrow from Children's and Adults' Services, although some Adult resources may not be freely available to children.  You can borrow up to 50 items per card at one time.

A standard four week issue applies to almost all resources in the library, and most resources are free. The only exceptions are as follows:

  • Magazines are issued for two weeks - free of charge
  • Music CDs are issued for one week - $1.00 per week
  • CDRoms, Electronic games and DVDs are issued for one week - $2.50 per week
  • Hot Picks are issued for one week - $2.50 per week

One renewal is available for most free items, as long as there are no holds on the items and they have not already been renewed once.  Pay items can also be renewed, and incur another borrowing fee each time they are renewed.  Pay items can be renewed more than once, as long as there are no holds on the item.

Borrowing from another library

If you have been unable to find what you need in our collection, we can borrow resources from other libraries on your behalf. Please be aware that borrowing from another library does incur a cost which will vary, depending on the location of the item you want.  For more information about library costs and charges, visit our Fees and Charges page.  For more information about borrowing from another library, please visit our Interloans page.

Please fill in the interloan form with as much detail as you can to ensure that we request the right item. You will also need to provide your User ID, which is the number on the back of your library card, your name, and at least one way that we can contact you.  If you want general information on a subject rather than a specific book, please contact the Library on
(03) 211 1444 or email us on help@ilibrary.co.nz or send us a message and we can help you to find what you are looking for.

Overdue fees and lost items

Overdue, lost, or damaged items will be charged for. A minimum of 20 cents per free item per day, and 50 cents per pay item per day will be charged on overdue items. When the amount reaches $10.00, further borrowing will be restricted. View full details on our Fees and charges page.

We can help you avoid overdue fees when you choose to sign up for our Pre-alert service, which sends you an email reminder three days before your items are due.

After hours returns

Items can be returned to the Library even when the building is closed. After hours returns slots are provided at the Dee Street entrance: one for Adults' items and one for Children's. Special slots for non-book materials (such as DVDs and CDs) are also provided in the same area.
