Volunteers are teamed up with a housebound person near the area in which they live. The volunteer is responsible for coordinating pick up and return of library books to and from the library on behalf of their housebound partner.
Some frequently asked questions and answers follow:
How are volunteers and housebound people teamed up?
Where do I pick up the items from?
How often will I need to exchange the items?
How will I know when to exchange the items?
Volunteers are teamed up with a housebound person near the area in which they live.
Our Housebound Librarian will choose and pre-issue all the items. All you need to do as a volunteer is to pick up the items from the Library and deliver them to your housebound partner.
Your housebound partner's items are shelved in the Housebound office in blue library bags in alphabetical order. New volunteers will be shown where the office is, and how to locate their housebound partner's books.
The items are to be returned to the Housebound office and placed on the floor. Please keep the items in the bag. It is important that these items are not returned through the after-hours slots, or through the adults' returns areas.
Items should be collected and changed on a monthly basis. However if your housebound partner takes longer than a month to finish them, this is not a problem. Items for this service have a longer issuing period than normal.
Your housebound partner will ring you when they are ready for their books to be changed. You can then arrange a date and time suitable for both of you.
Please ring the Housebound Librarian on (03) 211 7821 or send us a message via our Housebound Contact form.
Please note: Prospective couriers will be asked to complete a Consent to Disclosure of Information form, allowing us to carry out a police check.
