L. A. Meyer
This is the fifth book in the Bloody Jack Adventure series. The year is 1806 and Jacky and her fellow schoolmates were found adrift at sea and rescued after escaping off the pirate ship the Bloodhound.
The book is set firstly in Boston. Then is later on set on the Mississippi river on the way to New Orleans as Jacky hopes to remain anonymous in New Orleans to escape the British authorities. The book has quite a lot of depth to it as Jacky has gone through a lot of adventures by now and she keeps coming across people she’s met along the way. The book has a lot of emotion as Jacky has to think about whether she still wants to be with her childhood sweetheart, Jaimy or whether she wants to find someone else.
Jacky the main character is a very likeable character as she’s funny, quick thinking and does things that she probably shouldn’t do. She was very sneaky by the way she stole Mike Fink’s boat. She gave him a drink of whiskey laced with opium. This is both sneaky and quick thinking as she needs his boat to get down to New Orleans before getting captured by the British authorities. I like how she did this as I didn’t actually know what she was planning until the book mentioned ‘opium-laced whiskey.’
I would definitely recommend this book to a friend as it is a really good book. One of the down sides is they probably will have to read all the books that come before it to fully understand what was going on and to understand the people that she’s meet. This is an extremely good book to read and would recommend it to anyone that like stories about pirates.
