Anna Jacobs
This book is set in 1921 in a town called Heyshaw. A used to be teacher, Eva Kershaw is looking after her dear friend Alice who is dying of a terminal illness. Then unexpectedly, Alice’s nephew; Gus Blake turns up to see his dying aunt but Eva senses there is something not quite right about Gus but she doesn’t know what but she finds it interesting and a bit strange how he turns up in the last few weeks of his aunt’s life. This book doesn’t really evoke much emotion or feelings but the feelings are written in a very detailed way so it’s almost like you are that person.
I really liked Eva in this book as she is very strong, courageous and smart. She is very quick thinking when Gus tries to rape her, as she climbs out the window to a tree when the lock on her bedroom door is no longer there. She’s very courageous as she keeps running away from Gus in the rain when she can’t even see where he is and can’t scream for help as he’ll find her. I like her for these traits she has as they help her to stay out of trouble and they also help her find her true love.
I would recommend this to a friend if they liked “a little bit of everything”. It has some murder, illness, love and mystery. It’s a very good story because it has a little of everything and because I love all of Anna Jacobs books I have read so far. I think anyone that reads this will like it for all it has to offer.
