Gone is about a small town in southern California called Perdido Beach where disaster has struck, as all people over 15 years old disappear into oblivion. Since all of the people who had taught and ruled the children’s life gone the children are left roaming the streets alone and confused about the future that lays ahead, for they now have total freedom and power as there is no one to control them. To complicate matters some children start to mutate into super humans where they have amazing abilities, but it is not just them that are developing powers as the creatures who used to roam the forests and streets are now intelligent animals forming armies to rid the city of all of its inhabitants.
Betty White
I found the short chapters slightly disruptive and made it easy to lose focus. The book itself is simply an overview of Betty White’s life. It’s clear from the book that Betty White is an author of few words; her chapters are more like summaries than actual chapters. However she does manage to share some briefly interesting stories.

This book is the first book in The Black Magician trilogy which introduces us to a young girl called Sonea and her rascal of a friend Cery. Sonea is an orphan who lives with her aunty and uncle in a medieval era city, moving from place to place. Unfortunately once every year by decree of the king the magicians guild (an elitist group of people with the ability to do magic) use their magic to “purge” all the street urchins out into the slums. But for Sonea this purge will be different from all the purges before, this time she will rebel against the magicians with her friend Cery. Every year Cery has rebelled and every year everyone has been forced out into the slums by the magicians impenetrable magic barrier. In a shock twist that will change the guild forever, Sonea manages to pierce the barrier and concuss a magician. But only a fellow MAGICIAN can pierce a magical barrier!
