Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week graphic featuring a colourful signpost pointing to “Te Reo” and “Towns”.

Te reo Māori belongs in our everyday lives – at home, at work and in our communities.

Join us at the Invercargill Public Library to celebrate Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori from 14 to 20 September.

A range of activities will be held throughout the week:

Wednesday 16 September

  • 10.30am - 11.30am: Te reo Māori storytime and poi making.

Thursday 17 September

  • 3pm - 5pm: Māori music immersion in the Zen Corner.

Friday 18 September

  • 10.30am: Waiata performance by Waihopai School
  • 11am: Kapa haka performance by James Hargest College
  • We'll be serving free traditional kai from 11am.

Visitors can also enjoy book and language history displays, and take part in a scavenger hunt to find te reo Māori names of 12 Southland towns hidden around the library.
